Chloroform Gas From Your Shower May Cause Dizziness, Headaches, and Sinus Problems

Chlorine shower filters are important for a number of reasons. It is a well known fact that chemicals can enter your body through your skin. It is believed that people who do not use chlorine filters for shower heads absorb more chemicals than a person drinking gallons of the same water.

The popularity of trans-dermal patches as an efficient delivery system has proven that medications pass easily through the pores of the skin. Chlorine can enter your body through your skin, also. In addition, chlorine and other chemicals are vaporized during a hot shower, so the chemicals are inhaled, as well. It's really double exposure. Well made chlorine shower filters can prevent these potentially deadly chemicals from harming you at all.

That's why many experts say that using chlorine filters for shower heads may be even more important than a filter for your kitchen tap. Inhaled chemicals enter the blood stream quicker than ingested ones. So, the negative effects could be felt immediately, depending on the sensitivity of the individual.

Many health benefits can be obtained by the use of chlorine shower filters. Asthmatics have fewer attacks when they are not exposed to chlorine vapor on a daily basis. People in the swimming pool industry have long known that inhalation of chlorine fumes can trigger asthma attacks, especially at indoor pools where the fumes are concentrated due to lack of ventilation.

The concentration in the bathroom is even greater. Plus, depending on where you live, the amount of chlorine in your water can be higher than what you would find in a swimming pool. Only good quality chlorine filters for shower heads can protect you.

Dizziness, frequent headaches, and sinus problems can all be a symptoms of chloroform gas exposure. Chloroform gas is the result of vaporized chlorine interacting with dead skin cells and other biological matter in the bathroom. Basically, you are inhaling chloroform gas every time you take a shower. If you have frequent headaches and you are not using chlorine shower filters, the cause of your headaches could be exposure to chloroform gas.

The FDA has reported that nearly every home in America has a measurable level of chloroform gas. But not homes with chlorine filters for shower heads, because the build-up is believed to be caused by showering in chlorinated water.

The best chlorine shower filters remove 99% of the chlorine from the water, preventing the buildup of chloroform gas and protecting your family's health. Plus, everyone's hair and skin will be softer, too.

Compare Shower Head Water Filters to Save Money

When it comes to shower head water filters, there are good choices and excellent choices. We compared the effectiveness of the most popular and the best shower filters on the market. Here's what we found.

When you compare shower head water filters there are several different factors to look at. The retail price is of course the first thing that most people look at, but it is not the only consideration. It's probably not even the most important consideration.

You might think that the most expensive products are the best shower filters, but we learned that this is not the case. Wellness shower head water filters are the most expensive brand that we found. At a cost of $249.00 retail and $189 per year for replacement cartridges, the price alone would scare many people away. You might even wonder if you really "need" to shower in filtered water.

You probably already know that there are thousands of different chemicals in tap water. This is water that comes from a public drinking facility. It's been filtered and disinfected, but it's still not really safe for drinking or bathing.

Most experts recommend filtering tap water before you drink it. Chlorine, a chemical added at the treatment facility to kill bacteria and other living organisms, is supposed to be safe, at certain levels, but the ill effects on your future health are only now being fully evaluated.

Long-term studies support the use of shower head water filters, because an increased risk of developing several different types of cancer has been noted in people showering in chlorinated water. They are not sure if it is caused by inhaling chlorine vapors or absorbing the chemical through the skin. It could even be related to the chloroform gas that is created when chlorine interacts with "biological" matter. That's basically anything that is or was alive and anything that was excreted by a living creature.

The best shower filters remove chlorine by running the water through an activated carbon filter. The latest technology and most environmentally friendly are carbon granules derived from coconut shell. Only the best shower filters supply this type of carbon filter, but guess what, they are not the most expensive shower head water filters on the market. In fact, they are the least expensive.

At $67.99 retail and a cost of $84.00 per year, you can shower in the cleanest water you've ever experienced. Chemical free and pH balanced with a trace of natural minerals, so that the water is reminiscent of natural spring water. It can only be described as luxurious. But, at a cost of less than a quarter per day, it's an inexpensive luxury.

Some shower head water filters reduce head room or flow rate. Some have bulky attachments and are difficult to install. Some include expensive reverse osmosis steps that are totally unnecessary when your water comes from a public source.

The best shower filters do not reduce height or flow rate. They are easy to install, do not noticeable reduce the flow rate or the head room in the shower. They have received good ratings by consumer's digest and their performance has been certified by underwriter's laboratory.

Shower head water filters are relatively new, only becoming popular within the last ten years. The right product is an inexpensive investment in your family's health and beauty.

Bathroom Ideas to Make Your Bathroom Look Larger

We all know that bathrooms come in different shapes and sizes ranging from extra large to extra small. Small bathrooms have the annoying tendency to become cramped especially when you have not quite mastered the art of storing things yet. There are ways that you can make your tiny overstuffed bathroom look a little bit bigger. It's all about using the right bathroom design ideas. If you want to enlarge the coast of your bathroom so to speak, try out these great bathroom design tips --

- Use Colors: Painting the bathroom a different color can make it appear bigger instantly. Some colors will make it appear smaller though so be careful in your choice. Bold bright colors are the way to go if you want the bathroom to have the illusion of being a larger space. Repainting not
only provides instant results but it is less expensive than remodeling the entire room.

- Tiles: It matters greatly what size tiles are used for the floor and walls of your bathroom. Normally larger cut tiles give the room the effect of looking larger and smaller tiles make it appear smaller. Extending the bathroom tiles from the floor to the wall will give the bathroom the illusion of space.

- Bathroom cabinets: The size of the bathroom looks bigger if the appropriate cabinets are put up carefully. Along with giving you extra storing space, cabinets also give your bathroom a much neater and cleaner look. Rather than hanging cabinets that 'eat' up space, opt for small floor cabinets.

- Doors: Putting in slide doors instead of the normal doors can make your bathroom feel bigger. Slide doors essentially make your bathroom look less cramped.

In implementing these tips, remember- blend them in with the theme of your bathroom...

How to Install a Vessel Sink

So you have decided you want to install a vessel sink in your bathroom...great choice you will love it! In this article I will discuss the choices you will make to install a vessel sink and faucet.

Vessel sinks:
In general there are two types of configurations to consider when you install a vessel sink. One is a square or rectangular ceramic, porcelain material and the other is a circular bowl style that can be anything from glass to stone. The basic difference is the mounting method, faucet placement and overflow drain. There is an exception; there are circular porcelain vessel sinks that are sit like and are mounted like the square or rectangular vessel.

Rectangular or square vessel sink:
The rectangular or square style will sit on the counter top and is attached with a thin bead of silicone. A drain hole is cut into the counter top that will allow the drain pipe to pass through...without coming in contact with neither the counter top nor being attached to it. The drain hole in the counter top is cut a bit larger than the drain pipe thus giving a little room to fine tune the placement of the sink when you are attaching the rest of the drain pipes.

This type of sink make have an integral faucet mount or it may not. Depending on which it is will dictate how tall the vessel specific faucet will be. I will discuss this in another article.

Circular bowl vessel sink:
This type of vessel is what you normal will see in glass and has a curved dish shape that if sat on a level surface would rock back and forth... There are many variations in material however they share a similar mounting technique. The bowl typically mounted on top of the counter with a special mounting washer. The washer is a metal collar with silicone washers and the bowl is mechanically attached to the counter top with the drain pipe. The threaded part of the drain passes through the counter top and then secured with a large nut. In essence the bowl is bolted to the counter top. The bowl will also be by default perfectly level due to this method of mounting.

Of course when you install a vessel sink there always seems to be an exception....you can mount a circular bowl shaped vessel set into the counter top. You would cut a circular hole in the counter top to allow the bowl to drop in whatever depth you wish. This mounting method gives a very different look + allows you to fine tune the overall height of the sink too, when compared to the typical way which is to sit the bowl on top of the counter. It is a little trickier to do because you will need to secure the bowl to the counter top with a thin bead of silicone and get the top of the bowl perfectly level.

Do your homework and ask lots of questions!

Greener Bathroom For a Greener World

Giving your home a green makeover isn't as hard as it sounds, and a great place to start is in one of the smallest rooms in your house - the bathroom. This small space packs a big punch when it comes to the use of natural resources and chemical pollutants. A few small steps can make a big impact, so read on ...

Hardware: The single most important thing that you can do to make your bathroom greener is to install a low-flow shower head and limit your showers to no more than 10 minutes. Showers use less water than baths, but they are still the single largest cause of water use in the home. There are many low-flow shower heads that are easy to find and just as strong as regular shower heads and can reduce water usage by up to 50%. In addition to saving water, by using a low-flow shower head you will also reduce your energy use, as it takes less energy to heat the water flowing.

If you have the opportunity or need to replace your toilet, purchase a low-flow or dual-flow option toilet, which allows you to select how much flushing is necessary. Given the hundreds of gallons of water that we literally flush down the toilet

Cleaners: Many hazardous chemicals are found in people's bathrooms. These chemicals are found in common bathroom cleaners like soap scum remover, toilet cleaner, and window and glass cleaners, and are dangerous if you have children or pets in the house. They can also harm your septic system and filter through wastewater treatment plants to the ocean. Surprised? Every year, scientists find more household chemicals in the ocean. These chemicals affect the ocean ecosystem and thus the health of the millions of plants and animals who live there.

Common cleaners also create ecological impacts when they are made, and their plastic packaging can remain on Earth for hundreds of years.

Instead, opt for one of the ecological cleaners that get rid of your soap scum without harming the environment. Look for labels like: non-toxic and biodegradable, no chlorine, no petroleum-based solvents, no glycol ethers, and not tested on animals.

Paper Products: The most commonly used paper product in the bathroom is, of course, toilet tissue. This innocuous-seeming product actually has many problems. First, toilet tissue made from virgin trees (i.e. not recycled content) means that we are cutting down forests for the sake of our toilets. Second, most toilet tissue is treated with chemicals and dyes that are not safe for our septic systems, nor good for the ecosystems that are downstream from our toilets.

Finally, creating toilet tissue uses a lot of water and energy. If every U.S. household replaced on 12-pack of 400-sheet virgin-fiber bathroom tissue with 100% recycled tissue, we would save 1.7 billion gallons of water.

Look for toilet tissue that is made, at least partially, of recycled content. Also seek tissue that is whitened without chlorine bleach, is free of dyes, inks and fragrances.

Towels: There are two great fiber alternatives that are much better on the environment and don't cost much more than standard cotton products. Organically-grown cotton means that growing the cotton does not require chemicals and insecticides that impact the ecosystem.

A good alternative to cotton is, surprisingly, bamboo. Bamboo fibers make fibers that are incredibly soft and silky. In fact, many people choose bamboo towels based on touch alone, without even realizing they are choosing a sustainable fabric. Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that grows without pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals. It does not destroy natural forests or take an undue toll on the Earth, thus making it an excellent option for eco-conscious consumers.

Personal Care: All those toiletries that fill your shower, cabinets and drawers can take a serious toll on the environment. The chemicals used in most cosmetics and toiletries range from toxic to dangerous, and everything in between. Some major things to look out for include shampoos and conditioners containing petroleum products, hair dyes with carcinogenic coal tar, deodorants containing aluminum, hairsprays and hair gels containing petroleum derivatives, formaldehyde, phthalates and synthetic fragrance.

It is also a good idea to seek products not tested on animals. This approach allows you to avoid harming animals for the sake of beauty while also making it a little easier to shop, since many products with the Humane Cosmetics Standard (HCS) label also meet the above criteria.

You want to spend more time enjoying your home and bathrooms than cleaning them. This product is easy to clean, low-maintenance, highly durable and come in a wide variety of styles. In addition these showers can be installed on a solid surface tile, marble or granite base or a pre-formed acrylic base - so they can be designed to fit in any home or commercial application.

• Looks - provides a cool, clean contemporary look. Many designers are now combining the contemporary look of blocks in traditional interior designed bathrooms - creating a more eclectic design approach.

• Easy To Clean - Several patterns are designed to minimize spotting and residue in a shower applications. Consider patterns like Icescapes and Decora from Pittsburgh Corning or Wave from Mulia. They clean easily with just soap and water.

Glass Block Walk in Showers on a Tile, Marble, Granite or Solid Surface Base

Glass blocks can be installed onto a solid surface tile, marble, corion, or granite base to match virtually any bathroom dimension. With the use of specialized layout cards the base can be designed to fit the shape you'd like. The base and tile walls are then built by a tile or general contractor. Once this is completed the glass walls can be installed on top of your base. Most of the bases have a 4 to 5 inch curb - although these showers can be designed without a curb so those with special needs can roll into the shower as well. The walls are either installed on the job site (one by one) or in some cases can be prefabricated with a specialized system called Vinyl Stack which can save labor costs in the field and often improves the finished quality of the installation.

Preformed Glass Block Walk In Shower Systems

One preformed walk in shower system measures 72" x 51" and is easy for you and your builder/remodeling/installation contractor to design with because it comes in 7 different colors and pre-formed acrylic base. This system has grown over 40% the last 5 years according to Pittsburgh Corning, the manufacturer of the product. Because you walk into this shower system through a curved wall you can eliminate cleaning the bottom of a shower door ever again. The acrylic material is durable and easy to clean as well.

Other popular uses of blocks include windows above soaking or Jacuzzi tubs in master bathrooms, windows in garages and walk-in closets to let in light while maintaining privacy, basement windows, and above tub surrounds in children's bathrooms. This product is used to increase privacy, improve security, create a modern look, and increase light transmission from room to room.

Bathroom Decorating Themes - A Look At Some Popular Decors

These days - with a greater emphasis on personal grooming than there may have been in the past - we are spending increasing amounts of time in the bathroom. With this being the case, it makes good sense to have your bathroom be a comfortable, indeed engaging place to spend some time. Homeowners usually don't need too much persuading that they should give some thought to decorating their bathroom, but the question that then arises is "how?" or "what bathroom decorating themes should I employ?" Below is a discussion of some of the more popular themes.

Modern (Contemporary) Bathroom Décor

Contemporary bathroom décor is best characterized by its clean lines and gleaming surfaces. It shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that this type of décor is more commonly found in your modern urban apartments. Stainless steel fixtures such as sinks, medicine chests, bathtubs, shower walls, faucets and spigots feature heavily in contemporary bathroom decor and are available in wide variety of shapes. Glass and ceramic fixtures will also tend to feature in the modern bathroom décor.Lighting also plays an important part in contemporary bathrooms with fixtures ranging from simple to funky and available in all colors, shapes and styles. A light dimmer can be useful to soften the light to achieve a particular mood or to brighten the light whilst applying makeup

Rustic (Country) Bathroom Décor

A country theme should be redolent of a slower pace and a relaxed atmosphere and country bathroom decors tend to be dominated by classic bathroom fixtures - with the clawfoot tub being one of the more notable examples.

Country decors in general tend to be dominated by wood, but with wood and water not mixing that well it's best to stay away from wooden floors. However, wood can be worked in just about everywhere else. Wooden pegs and racks can be used to hang bathroom towels. Open storage cabinets - for toiletries and fragrances - look good when made of wood, and a wooden toilet seat will always look the number.

Vintage (Retro) Bathroom Décor

As with all bathroom decors, a vintage bathroom décor should fit in with the overall theme of the house. This can be one of the more difficult bathroom decors to successfully implement as finding vintage fixtures often means burrowing around salvage yards - and then there is also the question of whether they meet today's building-code requirements.

There are however, some manufacturers who have bought back some vintage-style sinks, faucets, bathtubs and toilets whose designs were first introduced in the 1920's. Porcelain tiles with a smooth finish are needed to finish this look.

Asian Bathroom Decors

Asian Bathroom Decors are a popular choice for anyone working within a confined space. They tend to be characterized by their simple elegance and combination of traditional bathroom design with distinctly Asiatic touches. Decoration tends to center around potted plants and the use of screens, with soft lighting also being employed.

Pursuing a bathroom decorating theme will ensure that your bathroom doesn't turn into the poor cousin of all your house's rooms and have it be a place that can draw favorable comment.

Novelty Toilet Seats - Get Them Talking About Your Toilet

When planning a bathroom décor, don't forget about the toilet seat. Novelty toilet seats can be an unexpected touch to a bathroom theme and add personality to an otherwise sterile functional fixture.

Novelty themes range from the beach to western with many fun and funky spin-offs. For example, you can find bright and colorful images of marine wildlife like dolphins, whales and sharks. Today, there is an abundance of sea shell themed seats, some with actual shells encapsulated in a hard clear material. Western themes can include horses, bears, cowhides and outhouses. You can even find unique toilet seats with fishing lures and golf tees embedded in clear durable acrylic. Additionally, you'll find online many artists who make one-of-a-kind artwork in whatever theme catches their fancy.

The materials to make unique seat designs are just as varied as the themes you'll find. Toilet seats normally come in a cast acrylic plastic. Clear acrylic allows for ordinary items like sea shells, fishing lures, coins and golf tees to be suspended in the material. Solid oak carvings are very popular and, today, several artists and craftsmen have chosen to make the seat the canvas for their art.

Before purchasing a novelty toilet seat, it's important to know the size and shape of your seat. Basically, the shape will be either round or elongated. To determine the size, measure from the center front of the bowl to the center of the hinge post holes. You'll find most toilet seats sizes to be standard.

Novelty toilet seats can add a distinctive and creative touch to the bathroom. And because of their unusual characteristic, you'll find your guests commenting about your toilet, but in a good way.

Interesting Bathroom Cabinet Woodworking Plans

If you've ever thought that you might like to build your own bathroom cabinet then you might need to find some plans before you can start. It might be wonderful to make your own bathroom cabinet because you can create exactly what you need. If you intend to make anything out of wood, the key is to prepare yourself with the correct plans.

What's In a Good Plan?

You can find woodworking plans for free, or you can purchase them, it doesn't really matter which method you choose as long as you choose a plan which you like. A good plan will list everything you will need and also help show you how long the entire project is expected to take. Most of these plans are also split up into skill levels so that you can be sure you're choosing the right plan for you.

These wood working plans will also list all of the tools and accessories which you will require to complete the project. You should know how many fixtures you will require, including draw rails, knobs and hinges. They should also help you by listing the materials you need.

Tool lists help you to plan and make sure that you have everything you need. Most of these plans don't simply assume that you have all of the tools required; they help you by showing which ones you may need to buy. If you require a specific type of saw blade for example then the plans will tell you.

Woodworking patterns are very useful because they list all of the measurements. You do not need to estimate measurements, or experiment. You know the exact measurements. What's more these measurements have been tried and tested by many people, so they should be pretty much error free.

How Hard Is It To Read Plans?

Most plans do not contain complicated language, they don't patronize you either. Pictures are used to help explain everything just in case you don't understand the instructions. Instructions are available in many common languages.

You don't even need to be a seasoned DIY expert, you just need some common sense and a basic knowledge of how a hammer works. If you've put together some flat pack furniture then you should already possess the necessary skills.

The Finishing Touches

Most patterns and plans should come with illustrations which show how the finished project will look. They all include sketches, however it's always nice to see a photograph so you know what you're aiming for. You will also be able to use this photo to decide on some ideas for finishes and paint colors. You can also use it to think about how it will look in your home when it's completed and assembled. You don't need to design your own plan, there are plenty of designs out there. It's almost certainly the case that someone has already designed exactly what you want!

Small Bathrooms Decorating Ideas

Before going for a complete bathroom makeover, you should have a proper remodeling plan, which should be the proper utilization of bathroom space for better looks, freshness with proper ventilation. Color schemes, wall and floors also should be incorporated in the renovation plan.

Let us start the bathroom plan with some vital points to make the remodeling project extremely successful.

1) Color schemes:

Without a proper color selection, you never can put life in your bathroom. Different colors put divergent moods and atmosphere. If you are looking for enhancing the light and space then you should choose orange color, greens or blues. You should try to take the help of a bathroom designer, who will assist you in choosing the right color for your bathroom.

2) Placing a mirror:

Putting a mirror in the bathroom make the room bigger as well as reflect lights, thus increasing the appearance of the room size. For a better solution place a number of smaller mirrors in place of bigger mirrors. Smaller mirrors should be hung like bigger mirrors with the help of hooks.

According to "Feng Sui" placing a mirror in side the front door will confuse any evil spirit to enter in to your home. So from decoration to safety of our home mirrors play a great role

3) Walls and floors:

Before going for decorating walls and floors it is essential to determine the color of your bathroom. There should be a proper co-ordination of other items in the bathroom such as towels and throw rugs to bring all the colors together

When decorating a bathroom, you should know what to use on the floor. You can find different flooring materials in the market, but all are available with their more or less drawbacks. We can take a small example of marble, which looks excellent but are going to slick when wet.

Using tile in the bathroom is a smarter idea and less expensive as well as time consuming that can add a professional look and feel. To furnish the room more skillful you can use texture tiles, painted tiles and many more types of stylish tiles, which you can find from your nearest bathroom shop.

Now this is the time for designing the walls, which you have to do either of the two methods of wall painting or by using wall papers. It is wise able to use paint rather than the wall papers. As the walls of the bathrooms often come into contact with water, it will separate the wall paper from the wall.

4) Bathroom lighting:

Using lights in bathroom comes with safety questions. You should aware of few of the safety tips when using lights in the bathrooms for beautification. Always try to use only enclosed bathroom lights so that you won't be able to touch a bulb when you are in bath tub or in wet body standing on the wet floor.

Rather than using ceiling lights above the mirror, you should use wall lights at either side of the mirror. Using ceiling lights above the mirrors would cast shadows on your face. You light switch should be located out side the room for safety reasons.

5) Extractor fans for proper ventilation:

As bathroom is a safety place it should be odor free, fresh and dry. To keep your bathroom odor free and dry with proper ventilation you should use extractor fans.

Free Standing Baths and Roll Top Baths - What's the Difference?

Luxury free standing roll top baths have adorned the finest properties in the world since the 18th Century. The Paris Collection by Abstract Bathrooms combines authentic period styling with the latest production techniques, to satisfy the modern lifestyle.

The inspirational Ultimate Collection from Abstract Bathrooms has become the benchmark for the bathroom industry. These superb ultra minimalist, design lead, contemporary free standing baths are made from 8mm reinforced acrylic and are finished to exacting standards.

When choosing a reproduction roll top bath there are some general rules that apply to each individual bath. The majority of people that buy a reproduction traditional free standing roll top bath are trying to restore their period properties back to there former glory. The baths usually fall in to one of two categories, either British or French. The styling of the reproduction baths are derived from the original baths, a typical British bath would be single ended ( taps at one end ), the roll of the bath on the more grandiose baths would be anywhere between 4" and 7" and would be a major factor when purchasing one of the original baths. The feet of the baths were not as ornate as the French baths, although a nice ball and claw foot or lions paw foot was commonplace. There are some fantastic examples of these original roll top baths at companies like the Water Monopoly of London and Drummonds of London.

The original baths were made from cast iron, and vitreous enameled at more than 800 degrees centigrade. This service is still available through unique enameling services of Ribchester in Lancashire. The French baths were and still are the Crème de la crème of free standing baths. The original French roll top baths are smaller than the British baths as the French were a smaller race than the British. The bath legs on the French baths are design classics, with wonderfully ornate detail. The best examples of these rare baths are usually found in the French Châteaus or in our own British stately homes. Wentworth Woodhouse a privately owned stately home in South Yorkshire, England , houses a fabulous collection of original baths that have been sympathetically restored by Traditional Bathrooms Limited.

The same principles apply when choosing your reproduction free standing bath. Is the bath right for the property? The proportions of the bath, how it stands, the symmetry of the bath, the ornateness of the legs. The roll widths on the reproduction baths aren't as wide as the originals as the acrylic tries to go back into it's original form and can cause delamination.

Traditional Roll Top Free Standing Baths - Types And Styles

Single Ended Roll Top Baths
British baths with tap holes at one end of the bath. The original baths were between 5 foot and 8 foot in length either parallel or tapered ( like a coffin in shape) the larger single ended roll top baths were used as shower baths also known as Canopy Baths and Plunger Baths . These baths are probably the most comfortable of all roll top baths.

A good example of the reproduction bath would be the Oxford Single Ended Bath made by Qulaceram this example is made from twin skinned acrylic and is sandwich filled with resin throughout the cavity.

Roll Top Slipper Baths
French style baths originally this type of bath didn't have legs and sat straight on the floor. The bathing position of this bath is more upright than that of a single ended bath. Good examples of this bath are the Tiffany Slipper Bath from Qualceram a superb bath made from stone cast resin with an inner skin of 5mm acrylic. A less expensive option would be the Balmoral Slipper Bath from the Paris Collection by Abstract Bathrooms. This bath is made from twin skinned 5mm acrylic and is reinforced at the base. Don't confuse this bath with similar looking baths as this bath has a superior specification.

Roll Top Double Ended Baths
French in it's origin although there are British an American versions. The original French Baths are easily distinguishable as they didn't have any tap holes. The Paris Bath from Traditional Bathrooms Limited is a superb bath made from stone cast resin with an inner skin of 5mm acrylic and the most fantastic bath legs you are ever likely to see. The less expensive option would be the Balmoral Double Ended Bath from the Paris Collection byAbstract Bathrooms. This bath is made from twin skinned 5mm acrylic and is reinforced at the base. Don't confuse this bath with similar looking baths as this bath has a superior specification. Unusually this bath is available in a 1500mm size.

Roll Top Bateau Baths And Boat Baths
The epitome of French design flair and possibly the most stylish baths ever made. The first examples of these stunning baths were developed by Jacob Delafon of Paris the original baths sell for thousands of pounds and are as popular now as they were when they were first developed circa 1850 to 1900. The reproduction baths are available with or without legs, the best examples of the bateau baths on legs are the Paris Bateau bath from Abstract Bathrooms be sure to choose a bath without tap holes for that authentic look. The Boat baths sit on an integral plinth and go right to the floor. Although a little expensive the boat bath from the Clearwater-Collection is a faithful reproduction of the original boat bath with the Abstract Bathrooms boat bath been a better value bath. These baths are at home in both contemporary and traditional settings as there style transcends decades of interior design genres.

Choosing Floor Standing Taps For a Traditional Style Roll Top Bath

Traditional style roll top baths sometimes come with a flattened part of the edge called a tap platform. Taps can't be mounted on the rolling rim of a roll top bath so either the bath must have a tap platform to mount taps on or the taps must be wall mounted or they must be floor standing taps. This article deals with some of the main issues to bear in mind when choosing traditional style taps for a roll top bath. This article is concerned with contemporarily manufactured baths and not antique baths.

Choosing Standpipes

Mostly you will be choosing a set of taps and mounting them on standpipes. Although a few freestanding traditional taps are available as a single part this is not usually the case. Nearly all deck mounted taps (i.e. normal taps, bath fillers or bath shower mixers) can be attached to standpipes (but this does not mean they are suitable for use with your bath - see below). When choosing standpipes avoid those intended for contemporary taps, these usually have a bracket for a hand held shower built in which you will not need with a traditional tap which will have an old telephone style rest for the hand held shower. Also do not confuse standpipes with pipe shrouds,. pipe shrouds (usually telescopic) are used to cover copper pipes going from the floor to the tap platform and are not sturdy enough to take the weight of taps, true stand pipes on the other had will cover the pipes and take the weight of the tap. Normally neither standpipes not pipe shrouds take the water directly, they conceal the actual water feed pipe. Standpipes vary in height typically they may be 660mm or 700mm high. As a general rule its sensible to use 660mm standpipes on a bath that is up to 660mm high from the floor to the top of the rim at the point where the taps will be. The higher your standpipes are the more imposing your taps will be.

Choosing a Suitable Tap

Most traditional bath taps, fillers and bath shower mixers will not be suitable for use on standpipes as floor standing taps. Although they will fit on the standpipes most of them will not have sufficient reach for the spout to comfortably get over the edge of the bath. In general you need what are called cranked leg taps, a cranked leg tap has an extra piece at the bottom of each leg with an extra wiggle in it that pushes the tap upwards and forwards giving that extra reach to get it nicely over the edge of the bath. In general you need a minimum of 150mm reach (pipe centre to spout centre), you should always check this before buying your taps and you should always ensure you have enough reach for the particular bath you need the taps to work with.

Summary

So the main issues are:

1. Get a traditional style pair of standpipes with no shower bracket

2. Measure the height of your bath (with feet if it has them) and get the right height standpipes to go with it.

3. Look at a technical drawing for the tap as well as one for the bath if you can and check you will have enough reach in the tap spout to comfortably get over the edge of the bath.

How Shower Filters Are Useful For Your Family Health

More and more people are installing Shower Filters and water filtration systems for their homes. Some consider them as elements they do not need, while others that have already used water filters for several years, admit they cannot live without them. So where does the truth reside?

Specialists too recommend us to use shower filters and water filters in our homes for many years now, but do we really need them?

The truth is that a water filter installed in your home can protect you from many medical issues. The waters are more affected by pollution today as they ever were. But not only pollution affects our drinking waters (and when it comes to pollution, there are several types of activities that affect the waters: industry, agriculture, human errors and accidents), but also bacteria and old water treatment plants, that cannot cope with the rising demand for clean water.

All the debris and residues from industrial activities infiltrate the soil and reach the underground water layer, layers from which the drinking water comes from. The demand for water is on the rise and the pumping and filtration stations are barely keeping pace with this demand. This all means that more and more impurities reach the water in your homes.

Chlorine, bacteria, sulfur, metal particles and other dangerous particles have all been found in lab tests of our running water. Imagine what these substances can do to your skin and health if you would continue to use unfiltered water for your showers. Your skin breathes through the pores and all these substances can enter your body if you take many showers with impure water.

The best way to avoid all these is to install shower filters in your home. The shower water filters are especially effective at removing the chemicals and bacteria from the water and independent studies have shown that the level of dangerous chemicals (such as chlorine and sulfur) is reduced by up to 90% by using water filtered by shower filters.

Shower filters are quite affordable and have the advantage of being easy to install and set up. While you will have to replace the filter from time to time (at periods that can range from several months to a few years depending on the type of filter you are using), shower filters are the best protection for your family from the dangerous effects of untreated water.
