Small Bathroom? No Problem: 5 Small Bathroom Vanity Remodeling Tips

Not surprisingly, redecorating your bathroom is a great way to improve the overall look and feel of your home. The challenge is when you have a small bathroom. While the options may appear to be limited, a little bit of creativity and imagination can go a long way towards having the bathroom of your dreams - even if it isnt the size of the bathroom of your dreams.

When your bathroom decorating project involves a limited space to work in, replacing an old vanity with a small bathroom vanity can help you free up space while you are working. There are several small vanities available to choose from, but you need to keep several things in mind when you are remodeling. Here are some tips to use when remodeling a small bathroom.

Tip #1 - Utilize the storage space in your vanity.

Often we forget to do the obvious. If your bathroom is small you will want to utilize the space you have. A small bathroom vanity that includes a cabinet under the sink can be used as storage for small items. Using this space for soap, bathroom tissue, cleansers, lotions, and even fresh towels is a great way to utilize the space.

Tip # 2 - Use Mirrors.

If you have a large mirror in your bathroom you will find that it makes the room appear larger. If you have a small mirror above the vanity exchange it for a larger mirror to give the room a more open, larger appearance.

Tip # 3 - Choose a small bathroom vanity that fits in the corner.

If you choose a corner vanity you can free up more space in your room. This space isn't an optical illusion as with the mirror, this is actual floor space. There are several styles available that you can choose from.

Tip # 4 - Use light colored paints for your bathroom walls.

Using light colored paint or wallpaper on the walls will help to open out the room and make it a bit bigger. The light paint also helps to give the room a brighter, happier look. Your small vanity should match your bathroom. You can purchase one that already matches or take the time to paint the vanity as well as the walls to match each other.

Tip # 5 - Pedestal type vanities take less space.

If you are still trying to use less space, and you aren't set on having the cabinet under your sink, then you can use a pedestal type small bathroom vanity. This type of vanity doesn't have storage space but it does open the floor space up quite a bit.

Making the most of the space in a small bathroom is important. You don't have to have a difficult time remodeling, even if you have limited space to work with. If you measure your vanity and make sure if will fit before you get too far ahead of yourself you should be able to remodel your small bathroom, and vanities are an excellent place to start when you are redecorating.

How to Select a Suitable Sink For Your Bathroom

The Types of Sinks
There are several different varieties of bathroom sinks available for today's homeowner, including pedestal sinks, wall mounted sinks, drop-in sinks, vessel sinks, corner sinks, and vanity cabinets.

Pedestal Sinks
Pedestal sinks are extremely popular with both new construction and older homes. This type uses a pedestal to support the basin and disguise the water lines and plumbing. Pedestal sinks are practical, space-saving choices because of their small footprint and simple installation. They are available for use on a straight wall, or specially designed for use in a corner. Corner style pedestal sinks are particularly useful for very small powder rooms. Pedestal sinks are most often made of vitreous china, ceramic, fireclay, or porcelain.

Vessel Sinks
Vessel sinks are bowl-shaped basins that are the latest fashion for modern bathrooms. The vessel sink sits on top of the bathroom counter instead of being sunk into it. Tall vessel filler faucets or wall mount faucets must be used with these overcounter sinks. Vessel sinks can be made of vitreous china, ceramic, fireclay, copper, bronze, or glass.

Wall mount sinks
Wall mount sinks are a great solution for small bathrooms, as they are fixed to the wall and do not require floor supports. The supply lines and drain are visible underneath the sink. Wall mount sinks are simple, economical, and are also available in corner styles. They are most often made of vitreous china, ceramic, fireclay, or porcelain.

Undermount and Drop-In Sinks
Undermount and drop-in sinks are usually used with vanity cabinets, and either mount underneath the sink opening or simply drop into the sink opening. Because they are used with a countertop, these sinks offer a lot of space for toiletries. These sinks are usually made of vitreous china, ceramic, fireclay, or porcelain, but are sometimes available in unique copper, bronze, and glass options.

Console Lavatories
Console lavatory sinks require more space than pedestal sinks, but give a wonderful vintage look to your bathroom. Console sinks are mounted on two or more legs that offer both style and support to the top basin. The water supplies are exposed with this type of sink.

Choosing a sink to express your personal style is easy if you consider the information above. With so many options available at affordable prices, homeowners can create the bathroom of their dreams in just a few simple steps.

Fitting a New Shower Tray

Shower tray installation was promised to be a simple matter by our plumber - a sage old man who wanders around the house muttering 'Bello', 'Grande' and 'Buono' seemingly at random and to himself. The reality of our experience fitting a new shower tray was a bit different and went as follows.

I am disabled and require a bigger space and stronger platform than most therefore we were already focusing on a quality product and not the usual bog-standard (if you'll excuse the pun) bathroom fitting. In consultation with our local builder's merchants we chose a Kaldewei enamel steel shower tray or shower tub carrier as it is sometimes called. The size I chose was large but not the biggest; 1.2m x 1.2m and it was made of thick white enamel steel. As a result we were quoted over €400 and a delivery period of 4 weeks.

About 2 months later, the shower tray finally arrived and we took delivery of it. We had left a suitable space in the floor of our bathroom but had not been able to plumb it in as we weren't certain of the location of the drainage holes in the floor of the shower tray.

We opened the huge cardboard box and removed the steel tray. We were surprised to see that it had wires attached to it but later reading of the rather confusing instructions suggested that we need to ask our electrician to earth this surface. So, now we had 2 builders men waiting to finish the bathroom, a plumber waiting to fix the shower tray and an electrician earthing it.

On top of that, the shower tray came mounted on a huge chunk of polystyrene which we assumed was packing (and rather wasteful at that). It turned out that this was to be embedded in the floor of the bathroom around the pipe work and the shower tray mounted on top of that. The instructions from Kaldewei leave a lot to be desire - multilingual they may be but they are completely confusing in any of the ones we understand. I've got them in front of me and, even though we now know how it all works, the instructions don't seem a whole deal clearer!

After many man-hours of swearing, arguing and, finally, sweating, we got the shower tray fixed into place and tiles laid around it to protect it and to keep water from going underneath it. If it works as well as it looks, it will have been worth it.

We're now waiting for the plumber to put the silicone sealant around it and then I can use our Kaldewei shower tray.

Seven Things to Consider When Painting Bathroom Cabinets

It does not take great powers of imagination to understand how painting bathroom cabinets can infuse dollops of sunshine into their dark, inky existence. But this fast and exceptionally easy way to adding spunk to the cabinets is sure to fire your imagination in more ways than one. Bold, vibrant colors can become the supreme inspiration behind the most artistic of all creations.

A few deft strokes are all it takes to guarantee a makeover that is sure to make every wannabe Hollywood diva extremely envious. And the fact that this process does not wreck havoc on your bank account has financially astute homeowners in raptures. Your perfectly functional but slightly worn-out bathroom cabinet can become the cynosure of all eyes in a matter of a few hours.

A Few Priceless Tips

I know my rather expansive account has your spirits soaring like a party balloon. But before you let your mind leap, jump and vault with joy, and allow the painter in you to run amok, make sure you take some time off to read these tips:

  • It is important to ascertain the material used in making the cabinets, to avoid calamitous results. While your efforts on wood, veneer and metal are sure to bear fruit, you're certain to be sorely disappointed in case of cabinets with thinner melamine plastic or plastic laminate.
  • It makes sense to remove all doors and paint them separately, rather than when they are hinged to the cabinet.
  • Use the services of an effective cleaning agent. Rinse thoroughly with water, after which sand paper must be brought into action to create a smooth, paintable surface. A damp cloth will obliterate all traces of fine dust particles.
  • The use of tape around the edges next to the walls will help in getting that impeccable professional finish.
  • You can set the ball rolling with a paint brush or a roller, depending on your style. A roller will not leave any tell-tale marks like brush strokes, and does a more competent job on large surfaces.
  • Choose from a dazzling array of cabinet paints or satin enamel paint in the hardware store near you.
  • Paint inside out; so you deal with the insides of the doors first, followed by the main body, and culminating with well-defined strokes on the outside. A second coat is advised, but only after the first dries completely.

You can let your heart swell with pride before you attach all the doors and handles. Make sure you are ready to handle the deluge of compliments, though.

Cheapie Ways to Stretch Your Dollar in the Bathroom

Decorating or re-decorating your bathroom does not have to cost you your entire savings, or your whole paycheck. You can find creative ways to renovate one of your home's most-used rooms for a fraction of what you may think it would cost.

Useful Bathroom Re-Decoration Tips

You can find plenty of timeless decorative items at thrift stores, rummage sales, and online stores. Items people have found to accent their bathroom include one or more of the following: brass toilet paper holders, tissue holders, hanging shelves, towel racks, and shower curtains.

If you do not like the color of your bathroom tile you can find paint that is especially made for porcelain materials at your local hardware store. You might even be able to find out if you can repaint your toilet as well which would save you even more money.

Beware that you will need to sand it before you attempt to paint any porcelain fixture. You will also want to take precaution by testing the paint in an inconspicuous area of the fixture you want to change the color of. is advisable to test the paint in an inconspicuous area of the time you want to change.

If you want to somehow update your outdated bathroom color scheme you can do so without ripping the entire bathroom apart. For instance, sometimes if you add the smallest change, such as wallpaper border that blends with the two or more colors of your bathroom.

You can also accent the outdated color scheme by purchasing inexpensive modern bathroom decor. For instance, you can buy a toothbrush cover, soap dish, tissue holder, or framed picture to hang in this beloved room of your home.

Perhaps if you want a change paint the walls of your bathroom to compliment your cabinets, sink, or bathtub if they are a different color. Similarly, you can use colored rugs that coordinate or contrast with the rest of the colors of your fixtures.

One recommendation for painting in your bathroom that would not take much work or money would be the "in" color Terra Cotta. It is one that is more popular now. You could possibly use various texturing techniques to combine a new color over the top of the old color if your walls are still in prime condition.

If you have a very, very, old and ugly shade of green, yellow, gold, orange, or similar color you could try for a certain theme. For instance, you might want to try a tropical theme, and perhaps you can find a palm tree border.

You can take care of rust problems on fixtures such as towel bars with a special cleaner. Before you know it they will be like new again. Rust-o-leum paint is one of the most current recommendations, and they are coming out with brand new colors now.

Another easy way to add some life to your stale bathroom is to purchase stencils and special craft paints. In fact, one experience indicates certain craft paints are removable from tile just by applying a razor blade (something to try at your own risk, especially if you rent).

The use of Deco-Stix or cling plastic accents is also used to decorate tiles. These are also very easily removable if you want to change the theme for various holidays, seasons, or special occasions.

The easiest way to recover a mix-up bathroom that includes all kinds of mismatched colors is to add a multi-colored rug that includes all the same colors. It will cleverly look like your bathroom is supposed to be crazy like it is.

The above-mentioned ideas should get you started. If you are still cannot decide on what inexpensive measures you can take to re-decorate your bathroom take some time to view samples of bathroom themes.Home improvement websites and do-it-yourself magazines often feature various rooms of the home you are interested in changing. You can even find instructions on how to carry out the change you would like to implement in your bathroom interior theme.

5 Key Shower Curtain Features You Absolutely Must Consider

When you decide to buy a shower curtain, make sure you don't buy something that will mess up the look and feel and even cause some mold and mildew to build up and basically mess it all up. Below I list some of the key things to look out for when out and about doing your shopping online.

Make sure it is water repellent

For one make sure that the one you intend to buy has a liner. But if you will often find some without one, in that case make sure that they do have a water repellent finish. You can check out a 100% cotton curtain because it does not need liners. If you find one that does not have the finish, then you can probably try and find which has a liner, sold separately.

Machine wash and dry

We all want something that is easy to manage and making a comparison based on its flexibility in terms of washing method is an important factor.

Hanging reinforcement

Make sure you are happy with the hanging reinforcement used. It is often best to find one that has metal grommets. For example, you can check out the Little Pig Vinyl Shower Curtain, which is cute and is decorated with pink pigs against a green background that a child would absolutely die for. If you prefer to use standard rings, get one with tie tops that are removable.

There are different varieties of this home improvement product especially in terms of the way they attach to the shower rod or bar. Also, they can be made of either one plastic or two layers of plastic, can come in large re-enforced holes or built in Flex-on rings.

Compare Shower curtain Fabrics

Take some time to consider the fabric. Keep in mind that while some fabric shower curtains are very tightly woven and perfect for cold weather you can use some to really accent the look of your bathroom with. You can buy a cotton rich one that is made of 55% cotton and 45% polyester, one made of 55% polyester, 45% nylon or a 100% polyester. Don't stress too much about these numbers just read on, you will understand in the end.

Compare Colors

When comparing, you need to try and find one or a set that works well with your ambiance or painting. For example, A black shower curtain can bring a nice contrast to an all white bathroom and a brown shower curtain provides a homey feeling, the good thing about purple is that it represents piece and tranquility so with a purple shower curtain you can bring a calm and relaxed ambiance to your room.

Use price comparison sites

These sites offer price comparison services and reviews where you can find information on the best prices, products, lists of manufactures and more. This is the most important face for most online buyers. I love review sites because the authors are experts at what they do and offer genuine stuff. You should look for a few of those sites and check out their recommendations.

Bathroom Sink Vanity - Materials And Mounting Options For Bathroom Sink Vanities

A bathroom sink vanity can be a focal point and establish the style and decor of your bathroom. Bathroom sink vanities come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and styles and can look like pieces of art besides being functional. Colored bathroom sink vanities will cost more as will units that have delicate designs that are hand-painted.

A bathroom sink vanity can be made of the following materials:

• Vitreous China
• Ceramic
• Stainless Steel
• Porcelain
• Metals
• Culture Stone or Faux Stone
• Solid-Surface Materials
• Enameled Cast Iron or Steel
• Fiberglass and Acrylic Sinks

A bathroom sink vanity made of porcelain or vitreous china finish will be heavy, durable, imprevious to water and mildew, but it can chip if you drop a heavy object on it. Stainless steel and metal bathroom sink vanities are durable and easy to clean, but they tend to become scratched with daily use and show spots obtained from hard water and soap. Fiberglass, acrylic sinks, culture stone or marble can all be molded into very beautiful shapes, colors and patterns, but they are more susceptible to scratches and chipping than other bathroom sink vanity types.

Sinks for a bathroom vanity cabinet can be mounted on the countertop in several ways:

1. Self-Rimming or Surface-Mounted Sinks - the sink bowl gets dropped into a hole, but the hole is slightly smaller than the outside rim of the sink, forming a seal with the countertop surface.

2. Rimmed Sinks - the sink is dropped into a hole in the countertop, and the rim joins the sink and the countertop, forming a seal with a metal strip.

3. Undermounted Sinks - the rim is attached to the bottom of the countertop creating a very clean look to the vanity.

4. Integral Sinks - one piece sink and countertop unit made from the same material. The only disadvantage to this style is that if any part gets damaged, the entire unit needs to be replaced. These sinks are usually made of stone, faux stone or solid surface-type material.

A bathroom sink vanity cabinet provides countertop space, a place for the sink and faucets and storage below - these are called vanity-mounted sinks. You can also find pedestal sinks, wall hung sinks and freestanding sinks. Vanity mounted sinks are popular because they provide storage, a place for the sink and the most countertop space. Pedestal sinks use very little floor space, they can be placed in corners and they have a classic look, but they lack storage space. Wall hung sinks have the advantage of being easily installed at various elevations which accomodates children, short or tall adults.

Bathroom sink vanities provide a perfect place for shaving, washing, shampooing, brushing your teeth and personal grooming. Sizes of sinks vary from 12x20 inches to some that are as large as 33 inches in diameter, depending on the shape. If you and others in the household will be using the bathroom sink vanities considerably on a regular basis, consider the sizes and styles carefully before making your selection.

Whether upgrading an existing bathroom or planning a new one, the bathroom is a good home improvement investment. You and your family and guests will enjoy the bathrooms in your home every day. And should you ever sell your home, attractive and functional bathrooms will add value to the selling price. Before you buy, read as much as you can on choosing the bathroom sink vanity online or in stores that will be the best for you and your bathroom.

If you’re more into antique-styled bathroom vanities, there is even a large selection of traditional and classically designed vanities that will give your bathroom that old-world charm. From forward-thinking designs to more traditional styles, you have an impressive array of bathroom vanities to choose from for your bathroom renovation.

Selecting a New Sink

Your bathroom sink takes a lot of abuse. Its daily use and constant exposure to many different elements (i.e. water, mouth wash, hair care products, etc.) can quickly erode its luster, leaving behind a dull, drab, and out-dated sink. If you care about the overall appearance of your bathroom, you need to update your sink. If you haven’t checked out the latest selection of contemporary sinks available to bathroom remodelers today, you’ll be surprised at the elaborate assortment of brightly colored and styled sinks currently sweeping the bathroom renovation industry today. Sinks these days can come in just about any color under the sun, contain exquisitely drawn designs, and even come in different shapes. The sky’s the limit when it comes to selecting a new bathroom sink, so go out there and explore.

New Sink Advice: If you’re going to update your sink, you should also update your vanity. Nothing looks tackier than a brand new modern bathroom sink resting in an old, dilapidated bathroom vanity. So update your sink and your vanity at the same time. It will save you the embarrassment of having your friends and family point out your bathroom’s “odd” mixture of old and new.

Don’t Let the Neighbors Outdo Your Bathroom

Modern bathroom fixtures are more prevalent and obtainable than ever before. The wide range of contemporary styles available to renovators is making it very easy for homeowners to transform their once dim and drab bathrooms into reflections of modern luxury. So if you’re thinking about a bathroom renovation, remember, you don’t need to stick to the standard bathroom styles. Venture out and discover the latest styles and designs available in the bathroom renovation market today. Before you know it, you’ll be basking your bathroom’s new modern décor.

Bathroom Design Ideas To Help You Transform Your Bathroom

There are numerous bathroom design ideas out there. No matter whether you've got a luxurious family sized bathroom or a small but functional space, whether you have the money to completely redesign your bathroom or are aiming to rejuvenate your bathroom on a shoestring budget, there are lots of practical things you can do. When you think about it, we all spend a fair amount of time in our bathrooms everyday, so putting some thought into your bathroom's design can help you create a welcoming yet practical space.

A good way to bring a touch of style to a tired looking bathroom is to add an attractive piece of furniture, such as sink vanity or a new wall cabinet. These things are relatively straightforward to fit or replace, and can help give your bathroom a fresh new image without the expense and hassle of replacing all your fixtures and fittings. Bathroom vanities and cabinets come in a range of beautiful designs, including antique effect, country style and contemporary, and can be used to great effect to influence the character of your bathroom.

If you want to give your bathroom a makeover without blowing your budget, there are a number of things you could consider. For example, you may be surprised at the difference new faucets on your sink and tub can make. Shiny new faucets in a stylish design can instantly improve a bathroom's appearance, without the need to install a whole new bathroom suite. Another way to cut costs when remodeling, is to just replace your bathtub, leaving the sink and toilet in place. Bathtubs take up the most space in our bathrooms, and a well-chosen tub can become an attractive central feature of your bathroom's design.

If you like the luxury of a long soak in the tub but you have a very small bathroom you could make the most of limited space by installing a corner bath. You could further enhance this by adding an overbath shower. In larger bathrooms that are shared by a couple or a family, it can make practical sense to add a double sink, which can also look very grand and elegant. Other ways to make a bathroom more aesthetically pleasing include hanging a fresh new shower curtain, replacing outdated tiles with nice new ones, and making good use of mirrors and lighting to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Home Building - Bathroom - Bathroom Countertops

When it comes to bathroom countertops there’s no limit to how creative you can be, because most countertops are custom-designed for each installation. There are hundreds of colors, patterns, and materials to choose from, but not all of them work well in the bathroom where water and condensation are a constant concern. Your best choices are marble, granite, ceramic or porcelain tiles, solid surface materials and laminate surfacing.

Plastic Laminate is the most common and least expensive countertop material, by a considerable margin and is available in just about any color and texture you can imagine. The four major manufacturers - Wilsonart, Formica, Nevamar and Pionite -each offer more than a hundred colors and patterns. The latest rage is having your plastic laminate custom-designed to your own color, texture and style, but be prepared to spend a few bucks here. Laminate is a breeze to clean because of its smooth surface. Cost is between $25 and $50 per linear foot, installed.

Ceramic & Porcelain Tile is probably the most versatile material that you can use on your countertop to create a specific style or look. Contemporary, retro, traditional, rustic, country, and everything in-between is possible when working with ceramic tile. The only drawback to using tile is the grout lines, because nobody wants to invest the time and energy necessary to keep grout clean, especially in the bathroom. And don’t be fooled - tile grout requires regular maintenance and lots of elbow grease. On the flip side, the tile itself is easy to clean. Cost is between $50 to $80 per linear foot, installed. Plain-colored tiles cost from $2 to $40 per tile with hand-painted tiles running from $5 to $75.

Corian and Solid Surfacing is made of either a pure acrylic product or a polyester-acrylic mix. The most widely available and widely known 100 percent synthetic countertop material is Corian by Dupont, but other manufacturers including Wilsonart, Formica and Avenite also make it in a wide range of colors and textures. Some of the materials are solid colors, but most have flecks that give it a textured look that resembles real stone (that will run the cost up). Cost is between $75 to $150 a linear foot, installed.

Granite slabs are the most expensive of all countertop surfaces, but this is one product that holds its weight. The expense of granite will vary greatly, depending on the type, quality and availability of granite that you select, as well as the finished edge that you choose. If you just can’t resist the look of granite and your purse is stretched, try going for granite tiles. Cost is between $75 to $200 a linear foot, installed.

Composite Stone is the hot new surface when it comes to tops and a big rival to granite. It is a stone-synthetic composite made of about 90 percent quartz particles and 10 percent acrylic or epoxy binder. Some of the composites look like natural stone, but not one that you could identify. Others are so close to real granite that you're left wondering if it’s real or not? Since the composites are man-made materials, they do not have the unexpected variation of granite or marble and they do not need to be sealed. The four major choices - Silestone, Okite, CaesarStone and DuPont's Zodiaq - all use the same process. The only differences between them for the end users are the colors and textures offered. Taken together, the four companies offer more than 130 countertop choices. Cost is between $110 to $250 a linear foot, installed

Wood is attractive and versatile, but it is very vulnerable to water damage and its porosity makes it hard to clean - especially in the bathroom. If you have to have a wood top in your bathroom be sure it’s well sealed with polyurethane or marine varnish. Note: extra care should be taken to seal around the edges of plumbing fixtures so standing water can't seep in and cause wood rot. Cost is between $25 and $40 a linear foot, installed.

Bathroom Designs Idea - Can I Design My Own Bathroom?

A bathroom designs idea - can I really design my own bathroom? Why not! Today, the bathroom is much more than just a room for grooming and a place to read. Bathrooms can be a good place for home exercise equipment and a good music system or TV, for example. What better way to unwind from the day than a soothing shower or warm soak in the tub with candles and relaxing music. So start a notebook. When you get a bathroom designs idea, write it down. Soon you will have defined the bathroom that is just right for you.

Design my own bathroom? You bet you can! When designing your own bathroom, some of the questions you should ask (and answer) include:

1. How big will the bathroom be? Bathroom sizes include:

• Master bathroom or luxury bathroom - includes toilet, bidet, two sinks, separate tub and shower, whirpool or spa and perhaps more, depending on your budget. Some master bathrooms are large enough to have exercise equipment, and they are subdivided into smaller compartments for privacy depending on what is needed.

• Full bathroom - includes toilet, sink, and combination tub/shower plumbed along one wall. Typical dimensions are 5x7 or 5x8 feet.

• Half bathroom - includes sink and toilet only. It can be placed on the main floor of your home to reduce the morning rush, and the family doesn't have to go upstairs to use the toilet. Common dimensions are between 3x6 and 4x5 feet, about the size of a smaller closet.

• Small bathroom - includes corner shower stall, toilet and sink and typical dimensions are 6x6 feet.

• Childrens bathroom - can be a three-quarter bathroom or full bathroom depending on the size of your home and how many children you have. Children's bathrooms should have plenty of storage and cubbies that are safe and colorful. If several kids will use the same bathroom, a wall or half wall between the toilet and the rest of the bathroom may be a good idea.

• Guest bathroom - can be a three-quarter bathroom or a full bathroom.

2. Are you planning to have convenient storage in the bathroom? A design my own bathroom person will always include bathroom storage. You can find a combination sink/vanity for extra storage. A great bathroom designs idea is you can never have too much bathroom storage!

Use the wall space wisely with shelves or cabinets over the commode or almost anywhere in the bathroom. Consider using corner shelves, and hang towel bars above one another. Add a medicine cabinet with mirror to your bathroom to store grooming supplies, medicine or toiletries. Traditionally, the medicine cabinet was always located above the vanity or sink, but nowadays you can place it elsewhere in the bathroom. Add a shower caddy to your corner shower for extra storage.

3. Do you have enough lighting planned for your bathroom? Natural light is an important element in bathrooms. A window, a wall or roof skylight will bring in natural light, a view or a dramatic skyscape. Having a skylight that opens is great because moisture build-up is reduced.

Artificial lighting is also vital and often overlooked in a bathroom. Without good lighting, the decor and the personality of your bathroom can not be developed properly. Lighting for your bathroom can be natural and manufactured. Lighting should be used to brighten and define the space since both can affect your mood and how you feel inside your home.

4. Another bathroom designs idea - what about ventilation? If you live in climates prone to mold and mildew, you should install an exhaust fan in your bathroom. Ventilating fans are sized by the number of cubic feet of air they move each minute (cfm). A design my own bathroom person will have a good ventilation system that can move the air from the bathroom to the outdoors about eight times per hour or once every 7 or 8 minutes. Bathrooms generate humidity and moisture that can penetrate ceilings, floors and countertops. Remove odors and humidity from a bathroom by installing a power ventilator large enough to do the job. You do not want your walls to break into a sweat every time someone showers.

Design my own bathroom? Go for it! A design my own bathroom person will read as much as possible, thinking through what is wanted and needed in this important room. A bathroom designs idea will range from materials used to the bathroom layout to the finished colors. Having a successful bathroom project is about making informed decisions while planning and while building. Continue the process of learning as much as you can before building begins. How much can you spend, what style will the bathroom be, what size ventilation should you have and so on. Your answer to each bathroom designs idea question is what will guide you so you'll have the best bathroom ever.

For A Classy Luxurious Looking Bathroom: Get A Beautiful Bathroom Vanity

The right bathroom vanity can really set the tone and style. Who doesn’t want a classy looking, spa style bathroom? An instant and inexpensive bathroom makeover can be as simple as getting a beautiful new bathroom vanity. You can take your bathroom from a plain abode, to a classy and luxurious, spa style bathroom, with this simple hardware upgrade. There are so many different styles of vanities out there. Vanities come in a variety of styles, and are made from a variety of different materials. You can find the classic ceramic vanity sink, or you can move on to more luxurious looking sinks. There are even handcrafted bathroom vanities that will fill your bathroom with an embellished look of heirloom art.

When you are looking for the right bathroom vanity, always remember to not only pay close attention to its style, but its cabinetry, countertop, shelving and material. One material that can definitely give you a classy and luxurious looking bathroom is marble. Marble can be polished to a high gloss, and can give your bathroom a very polished look.

After you found the right vanity, it’s now time to have it installed. You can do this one of two ways: you can consult a contractor, or you can install the luxurious new bathroom vanity yourself! In either case, you should always consult a contractor to get advice on upgrading your vanity. Now lets move on to installing the classy, luxurious looking bathroom of your dreams.

Here are the steps you need to take to install that beautiful new bathroom vanity:

1. First, you need to find a luxurious style vanity. Well this step seems obvious, but make sure that you have the right vanity that will project the luxurious feeling you want in your new bathroom.

2. For this next step, you will need to know a little about plumbing. Shut off the water to the pipes then disconnect the supply lines. You will need a bucket to catch any dripping water from the supply lines. Also, make sure to use the bucket to catch water that comes from the curved pipe in the center of the sink. This curved pipe is called the p-trap.

3. Next, you will need a utility knife to loosen the caulking between the wall and the vanity. You may need to go all the way down to the floor to remove all the caulk. When the caulk is removed, be sure to remove the counter top carefully so that the wall is not damaged.

4. After you have removed the counter top, remove the screws that are attaching the vanity to the wall. Then remove the old vanity.

5. The next thing you will need to do is find the wall studs. After this is completed, make marks on the wall for new screw holes.

6. You will need a carpenter’s level, and shims to make sure that the vanity is against the wall. Once the vanity is positioned currently, secure it to the wall with 2 ½” wallboard screws.

7. Use tub and caulk to secure the vanity top to the base.

8. Next, you will need to reconnect the plumbing.

9. The last step in creating a luxurious looking new bathroom is to apply caulk to the edges of the countertop.

If you are the do-it-yourself type, and know a little about plumbing, these steps should go easy for you. Otherwise, you can always get a contractor to lay down that classy and luxurious looking new bathroom vanity.

Choosing Bathroom Faucets That Fit In With Your Bathroom Style

It’s time again to fix that faucet. You’re sick of the ‘drip, drip, drip’ from your bathroom sink that keeps you awake until all hours of the morning. It’s not the washer in the faucet itself that’s gone bad this time; it’s the whole apparatus. You go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and wind up staring at the huge selection before you slack jawed because you have no idea what to choose. You need help.

The first thing you need to do is decide if you want to replace your bathroom faucet with the exact same style as before or go for something new. Replacing your faucet with the same style is the easiest route to go. You can remove the faucet from your sink and bring it with you to your local hardware store where you can buy the matching replacement. Of course if this isn’t possible or even feasible, your chore becomes a bit more complicated. There are many different types of mounting for your faucet and you will need to be aware of what type yours is before simply going and purchasing the new fixture. This is actually the hardest step in choosing your new faucet because the one that you really liked at the store may not work with the current configuration of your sink.

Common types of mounting include: widespread faucets that have individual hot and cold water handles; centerset faucets with one handle that controls both temperatures and covers the three holes that may be in your sink for mounting; mini-widespread which are the same as widespread faucets except positioned closer together; single-hole, similar to the centerset but filing in only one hole; and wall mounted, most commonly found on your bathtubs. Centerset and mini-widespread faucets are both designed for sinks with pre-drilled 4” holes. Some single-hole faucets include covers that allow you to use them on a sink with 4” pre-drilled holes. If you have one of the other types, though, you are best in choosing that same replacement.

Once you have determined what type of mount your sink has, your job of choosing a faucet comes down to aesthetics. Which finish will look best in your bathroom? This really is your personal preference and what will compliment the décor in your bath. It is also good to know whether or not your current faucet is a classical design (rounded edges, flowery embellishments) or modern (sharp angles, geometric embellishments). For example, if your bathroom is more of an antique decor, you may want to stick with a classical style, an everyday décor could use either, and somewhat futuristic décor would definitely go well with the modern styles.

You’ve picked out the faucet. You’re ready to go home and install it. Not yet. Have you considered your faucet’s finish? Bathroom fixtures come in a variety of finishes, from dull to shiny, chrome to wrought iron. Each finish has its pros and cons. Stainless steel and chrome are the most common finish available, but they scratch easily and show up fingerprints and water spots. Brass, which simulates gold and is very distinctive, rusts easier. And brushed nickel, which includes your flat finishes that do not show your fingerprints, is more expensive and its plating will eventually wear. The finish is personal choice, but know your options. Some faucets even offer a choice in the style of handles that come with it. But once again, choose something that will be a good match for your bathrooms décor.

The only thing left now is to take your new faucet home and install it. And then enjoy the compliments you will get on this most basic of bathroom items.

Bathroom Organizers-tips To Organize Your Bathroom For Maximum Effectiveness

Bathroom organizers are essential to keeping the bathroom neat and in order. Without these effective tools, you will never be able to organize your things the way you want. Here are some tips on how to get your bathroom organized quickly and easily.

First of all, in order to organizer your countertop clutter, purchase a plastic container and put all your items inside. Place this under the sink.

Whenever you need an item, simply pull it out of the these bathroom organizers. It is pointless to keep any and every time you’ve ever used on the counter even when they aren’t needed. This just prevents you from finding the belonging you really need at any given time.

To de-clutter your shower quickly, purchase racks to place your shampoo and other bathroom items. These bathroom organizers are offered at very affordable prices at local department stores, and can really help clear the mess around your shower and enable you to find whatever you are looking for on a moment’s notice.

Keep you scissors and sharper items in a magnet in your medicine cabinet to be able to reach them whenever possible. Also, a great idea is to place a magazine holder where you can put some reading materials to help you pass the time while going to the bathroom.

Use hooks on your wall to keep towels and other related items. Do not simply throw them on the sink or the floor; towels are often times the biggest cause of the clutter found in many people’s bathrooms.

As you are going through each of these steps, discard any of the various items that are no longer being used. Quite simply, these items that you no longer have any use for can often times take up the majority of free space in your bathroom. You may even find that doing this one step alone will dramatically transform your bathroom organization overnight.

Consider placing an extra cabinet just above the toilet to keep extra towels, washcloths and other related items. Many people keep their towels outside the bathroom, in another closet. This is not good if you are in the shower and realize that you’ve forgotten the towel or washcloth; keeping it by the shower will help you retrieve the item you need quickly and easily.

Finally, to keep your shower door neat and in order, purchase squeegee and place it in the shower. This will prevent stains and other things that get on there.

Remember, keeping your bathroom neat is all about commitment. Even if you buy all these bathroom organizers and follow all the steps involved, if you don’t stay focused on maintain this system every time you are done using an item, very soon your bathroom will fall back to its’ usual pattern of lack of organization.

Every time you are finished with an item, put it back in its’ appropriate place. If you utilize these bathroom organizers and stick to the plan every single day, your clutter will never again take over your bathroom.
