Important Bathroom Renovation Tips

Depending on how experienced you are with DIY projects you may find bathroom renovations a nice thought, or an extremely scary one! There's no reason why anyone can't do bathroom renovation projects themselves, if you plan properly you should be able to finish your renovation projects on time. The first thing you need to decide is exactly how far you want to go with your bathroom renovations. There are severe renovations and more simple ones.

The easiest bathroom renovation option is to make minor surface changes. These alter the layout of your bathroom. Another more severe option is to change the complete layout of your bathroom. This will be much more difficult because you will have to move fixtures around the room.

The most difficult type of renovation project would be a total remodel, this involves starting from scratch. This type of project is suitable if everything needs replacing, you start by ripping out all of the old things and then replace it with brand new things. Once you've decided on the type of renovation project you are interested in you should then work out your budget and cost.

Debating Cost

It can be very expensive to renovate your bathroom, sure the bathroom may be small but you can spend a fortune on this room. You will need to subcontract much of the work to skilled trades which is very expensive. Many people fund their renovation projects with a home equity loan. There are also other ways which you can save money on bathroom renovation projects. The biggest thing which will affect the price will be whether you plan to do the work by yourself or hire someone else to do it for you.

If you are only doing a simple surface alteration project and feel capable then there is no reason why you can't do this by yourself. However more complicated tasks such as tiling the shower probably need expert assistance. If you cannot do the complete project by yourself then break the project into smaller parts. Decide well in advance which projects you will do yourself and which you need to hire a professional for. You should make sure that you hire a licensed and insured contactor. You should make sure that you have any planning permits that you need.

You may well find that your bathroom renovations will spread to other parts of your house. This is because the moisture from the shower often gets out of the bathroom and damages other rooms. If moisture has affected the drywall then you may need to replace this. Hopefully you won't have to replace anything other than the dry wall otherwise it is a huge project which will almost certainly need expert guidance. If you get this bathroom renovation project right from the start then you won't need to start another project at a later date.
