Bathroom Accessories - Styles, Fixtures and Price Ranges

When decorating a bathroom, there are several factors to consider. First, what price range can you work within? Remembering to add bathroom décor, accessories, fixtures, paint, and building materials correctly can be difficult. Always include an extra 10%-25% to your total budget for emergencies or unforeseen extras. Sales and online shopping are always great resources for bathroom decorating and building.

Secondly, consider the amount of traffic the bathroom will receive. For most main bathrooms, organizing and maintaining the bathroom are as important as decorating. Luckily, there are several bathroom additions that help organize the room such as towel holders, toilet cleaner holders and above the toilet cupboards or shelving. By making sure all objects have their own place in the bathroom, it is always easier to put accessories back where they belong, which keeps the room clean.

After you have correctly budgeted the project and have proper furniture and organizing materials for your bathroom, choose an overall theme for the room. You can choose a motif such as nautical, tropical or Tuscany or you can choose several colors to work with. By choosing an overall theme for your bathroom, finding accessories can be easy. Start with a wallpaper or paint background to set a general tone for the room. Then choose towels that either bring together the colors and theme objects or accent the background with brighter colors or sharper images. Finally begin selecting accessories that compliment your theme.

Bathroom accessories can include:

  • Rugs
  • Bath towels
  • Hand towels
  • Fixtures
  • Soap dispensers
  • Soap dish
  • Fragrance holders
  • Candle holders
  • Bath baskets
  • Lotion holders
  • Shower curtains
  • Bath curtain rods
  • Towel racks

Below are several bathroom motif ideas:

  • Nautical: if you can't find wallpaper for your nautical-themed bathroom or you are unsure about the amount of blue paint you have used, you can add a mural to this room. Add a beach landscape or a window looking out as if from a boat. Some nautically motifs include anchors or red/white life preserver rings. Lighthouses might also be a nice touch to this room along with themed soap dispensers, dishes, Kleenex holder, and/or lighting accents.
  • Black or red accents: Black or red accents on lighter colors like white or yellow can add an extra pizazz to any bathroom. Keep the walls and counters a solid color or use occasional black or red tiling throughout. Use colored trims and find bathroom accessories that are the solid accent color.
  • Floral motif: floral motifs can range from tropical to country flowers. Some backgrounds can be overwhelming so wallpaper runners or small stencils might help keep the floral pattern from taking over. Remember to find pieces that reproduce the same types of flowers rather than changing from styles or locations. Accent pieces also work well with floral décor. For example, using a solid colored bath rug will bring out the colors of the flowers rather than finding a rug that is the same pattern as the walls or bath accessories.
