Bathroom Tile Design - Material Types For Bathroom Tile Designs

Good bathroom tile design should create a floor surface that is attractive, water resistant and safe to walk on. Bathroom tile designs using ceramic tile, rubber flooring or vinyl and linoleum floors are all examples of bathroom tile design material choices that should be available nearly anywhere.

These types of tiles are easy to clean, water resistant and safe to walk on. If you are going to use natural stone or terra-cotta ceramic tiles on your floors to create a more sophisticated effect, make sure you buy the kind with a non-slip finish.

As you consider which bathroom tile designs to select, each type of tile will have unique properties that may or may not provide characteristics that are good for your bathroom. Here are different material types for bathroom tile design along with advantages or disadvantages of each:

1. Laminate and Vinyl Bathroom Tile Design - these types of tile in bathroom tile designs can be found in a variety of colors, patterns and textures. Some tiles even imitate wood, stone and ceramic. It is not very expensive, is water resistant, easy to install and clean and it is durable.

2. Ceramic Bathroom Tile Design - ceramic tile can range from fairly cheap to expensive and it is the classic choice. Tile is made of clay, shale or porcelain and is formed and fired at very high temperatures until it hardens. The higher the temperature and the more times the tile is fired, the harder and less porous the tile. If you are using a white or cream ceramic tile for your bathroom, using a different color grout like "blue" will give your bathroom a dramatic look. Grout is the material used to fill the spaces between the tiles. Make sure you apply sealers to grout lines in areas of heavy wear like countertops. Sealers will also preserve grout colors.

3. Stone Bathroom Tile Designs (marble, granite, brick, slate, onyx, travertine and limestone) - this tile can be beautiful, very strong, durable in high-traffic areas, it will last a long time, is low maintainance and easy to clean. However, it is expensive, it's a cold material, can be slippery and absorbs stains easily.

4. Linoleum Bathroom Tile Design - this tile is made of renewable and natural materials like linseed oil, ground cork, limestone, jute and wood flour. This type of bathroom floor is making a comeback with new marbled and graphic designs, and it is more durable and easier to clean than vinyl tile.

5. Mosaic Bathroom Tile - this wonderful tile was an ancient craft that today can be made of tile, stone, porcelain and colored glass, creating stunning floor patterns. These tiles are small (1 or 2 inches square) and often expensive. What you can do is to add a small section of this type of tile for visual interest to your floor or countertop.

6. Concrete Bathroom Tile Designs - durable, low maintenance, perfect for wet areas and stunning. You can find this type of tile in beautiful textures such as shiny, rough, slick and sandpaper and in various colors and sizes.

7. Hardwood - you can build your bathroom floor using solid wood, parquet flooring or engineered woods (several layers of wood laminated and high-tech materials that are similar to plywood). Hardwoods are wear-resistant, attractive, comfortable to walk on, easy to clean and refinish, not very cold in winter, but they are more vulnerable to moisture when used in a bathroom.

If you want to use a bathroom tile design that includes rugs in your bathroom, make sure you buy the kind that has rubber backing, or add rubber backing strips to the rugs. Be careful with rugs that can slip and slide on a tiled floor or natural stone floor which creates a safety hazard. Rugs can also harbor dust mites and allergens which is a problem for people with allergies.

Whether you'll be remodeling an old bathroom or creating a brand new one, being active in the design stage helps ensure that your bathroom turns out just like you want. The bathroom tile designs and styles, colors, patterns and sizes you choose can help you have a bathroom that is comfortable, attractive and functional and a room that you will enjoy every day.

Bathroom Tile Ideas For Bathroom Floor Tile

Bathroom tile ideas for bathroom floor tile can help you know what options to consider for your bathroom. Bathroom tile comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, patterns and textures and they are the basis for any bathroom design. Bathroom tile ideas can help you have the very best bathroom possible.

Ceramic bathroom floor tile is often used because of its durability, resistance to dampness, its safety to walk on when wet and its ease of cleaning. If you select ceramic tiles for your bathroom, consider using a tile that has a slip-resistant surface for bathroom safety, which is one of the best bathroom tile ideas.

If you buy and install unglazed tiles, they will need to be washed frequently because they absorb stains quite easily. Bathroom floor tile shapes can be squares, rectangles, hexagons and octagons while accent tiles can be narrow and small diamond-shaped pieces.

Here are bathroom tile ideas for bathroom floor tile:

1 - If you use solid color ceramic bathroom floor tile in your bathroom, you can add tile borders of a different color to the tile floor, or you can create a border by alternating different colors. This kind of visual treatment can create a more interesting bathroom floor.

2 - When using the same color ceramic tile for the floors and walls, choose a different tile size for the walls or lay the wall tiles diagonally to create a more interesting visual effect.

3 - Another of the bathroom tile ideas is to choose a grout color that contrasts with the ceramic tile color. For example, if you are using white tiles, you could use blue, red or yellow grout for contrast. Be sure and apply sealers to grout lines in areas of heavy wear since sealers will protect and preserve grout colors.

4 - If your favorite color for a bathroom is pink, for example, add a few pink decorative tiles for the walls or use shapes, textures and borders to give it some visual interest. Select some rows of the walls where you can also use some of the pink tiles placed diagonally.

5 - To give your bathroom a contemporary style and look, consider using bright and bold colors with shapes or graphics against plain backgrounds. Contemporary style accessories and fixtures will further provide a modern-looking bathroom appearance.

6 - If you are trying to have a romantic or Victorian look in your bathroom, use floral tiles in soft colors like pink, light green or light blue plus handpainted ceramic sinks and perhaps a wooden floor. For a Mediterranean bathroom look, mix terra-cotta tiles with Mexican or other hand-painted tiles for the floors. For the countertop, perhaps mix the hand-painted tiles with another plain color tile.

7 - Bathroom tile ideas and tile color are important since color can greatly affect your mood, making you feel calm or energizing you. Warm colors like peach and yellow are fun, they make the bathroom feel cozier and they go well with a more country looking bathroom decor. If you use neutral colors like beiges and whites, they will make the room look larger, they will reflect light and they are always in style.

Colors like blue, green and violet are viewed as serene or cool colors. Brighter colors like black or red add drama to the decor, absorb light and will make the room appear smaller. In rooms with plenty of windows and natural lighting, consider using darker tiles to offset the ambient lighting. You can also work in colors you want through the use of accent tiles and accessories.

Have fun as you select the styles, colors, patterns and sizes of bathroom floor tile and related accessories for your bathroom. You'll want your bathroom to be a fun, cozy room to spend time in and the bathroom floor tile used can help create that kind of atmosphere. Use bathroom tile ideas to help you have that special bathroom that you can enjoy every day.

Bathroom Tile Installation - 5 Tips For Success

Bathroom tile installation is a great upgrade for any bathroom. Many homeowners tackle this job themselves. It's really not that hard provided you learn about the tricks that you must get right. For example think about these five tricks for bathroom floor tile installing.

A firm foundation.

Floor tile can be installed over all kinds of surfaces. But the one essential needed for a good installation is stability. Often bathroom floors have some water damage and are a little bit spongy. If a floor has any give to it at all, that's a floor that will have cracked tile. There is one sure way to have a solid floor and that's to use cement board as an underlayment for your floor. Be sure to learn about cement board.

Start at the right spot.

Bathrooms are often smaller rooms. You'll be cutting tile to fit on at least two walls. Make sure you start in the center or at one of the walls so the cut tiles are least visible. Nothing looks worse than tile grout lines that are running off at an angle from a wall right in plain sight!

Plumbing done right.

The toilet will have to come up for floor installation. Make sure you're ready to reset the toilet. Have all the hardware on hand. Be sure the mounting bolts are long enough for the new toilet height.

Lots of cuts.

In a small room like a bathroom, you'll get to do quite a few bathroom tile trimming cuts. You'll need your nippers for any curve cuts, like around the toilet. Plus you'll need at least a small tile saw and a tile cutter board is helpful too. None of these tools has to be very expensive. Even light duty tile saws aren't very expensive.

Grout is key.

Grout isn't waterproof. Water slowly seeps through regular masonry grout. So it's a good idea to keep bathroom tile grout well sealed. Also consider using an epoxy grout in a bathroom tile installation. This grout solves the grout leaking problem. But epoxy is highly toxic and not safe to breathe. Get a good mask.

Ceramic bathroom tile is practical and beautiful. With the right information, most anyone can install tile and produce a professional looking job. Just get the few key tricks right and you'll have a great addition to a bathroom.

Popular Bathroom Tile Shower Designs

When selecting the ideal shower design for your bathroom, there are several aspects of the project to consider before a final decision is made. Firstly, how large is your bathroom? If you have a small sized bathroom, you will not want to overwhelm it with a large tile design. Doing this will only make the bathroom appear smaller and will throw off the balance of the bathroom. After all, that is what you are looking for isn't it?

On the other hand, if your bathroom is so massive that you can hear a slight echo when words are spoken, the worst thing you can possibly do is to pick a shower tile design that is too small and intricate. Intricate designs work best with small bathrooms, and vice versa. As a rule of thumb, keep your bathroom tile shower design proportionate with the overall size of the bathroom.

Here are some of the most popular bathroom tile shower designs:

Glass

As of late, glass bathroom tile shower designs are becoming more and more popular. The most up and coming variation of glass tile is called the "mosaic" effect. The mosaic effect is made up of thousands of tiny square glass tiles, usually in a variation of shades within the same base color. Glass tiled showers also attract the eco-activists because glass tiles are often composed of recycled glass. Aside from granite, glass tiles are by far the most expensive bathroom tile shower design of the bunch.

Subway

Subway tiles may very well fall into the retro category; however subway tiles have remained one of the most popular shower design options for over half a decade. If applied correctly, shower tiles are the most seamless and clean-lines options available. Want another reason to choose subway tiles for your shower re-tiling? They are by far the most cost effective shower tiling solution.

Granite

Since the turn of the 21st century, it seems that the design pros have been obsessed with granite tiles, and not just for the bathroom. Interior designers love to use granite tiles as kitchen and bathroom counters, kitchen and bathroom floors, kitchen backdrops and of course, as shower tiles. The nation has spoken; the most luxurious option for bathroom tiles is granite. Yes, granite tiles in a shower look extremely lavish in a shower, however this beauty will come with a hefty price tag. Using granite is the most expensive shower tiling solution.

Bathroom Tiles - How They Totally Renovate Your Bathroom on the Cheap

If you're currently thinking about updating or redecorating your bathroom there are tons of bathroom tile designs that you can look at that will compliment your bathroom well. Some people go for a total overhaul in their bathroom to give it a new look. You don't always need to go that far though. Sometimes just laying new tile and adding some new or fresh bathroom accessories can make your bathroom have a totally new feel to it.

The days of "hospital white" tiles in all bathrooms are far behind us. Today, you have many bathroom tile design ideas in a wide variety of colors and textures to create many different effects - regardless of the size or shape of your bathroom. You will need to take extra time to decide on the exact ambiance you want in your new bathroom in order to narrow your choices down to the point of perfection.

You can either tile the entire bathroom, or just a partial area. The tile and design that you choose will ultimately change the entire look of your bathroom. When making your selection, take into consideration the cost of installation and maintenance. You want to have bathroom tile that is pleasant to the eye, long-lasting, and is safe for you and your family to walk on. Some stores sell wall tile as discounted floor tile. You won't know the difference until you step on it and take a hard fall on the floor.

Bathroom tiles come in ceramic, natural stone, porcelain, and terracotta. Prices will vary based on the design, type and manufacturer, so do your homework before making a selection. You will want to make your selection based on your budget and desire. You will want to ensure that all of the tiles have come from the same batch, avoiding a difference in sizes, texture or quality of the tiles you're buying.

It is a good idea to order a few samples before buying so that you can make sure your selection will fit into your overall design scheme. What looks great in the store may not look quite as good when it's laying flat on your floor. Colors and décor can clash more than you'd imagine.

Once you have determined the type of tile, selecting the color is the next really important decision to make. Your color selection defines the space and mood of your bathroom. If you want to create a calming and cheerful atmosphere, select pale and pastel colors, allowing for a few bright accents. Lighter colors also give the appearance of more open areas which can do wonders if you have a very small bathroom.

Blend colors, patterns and shapes if you want something that is more than just a basic block color. Colorful tile accents and murals can create interesting focal points in your bathroom. Just remember: less is more. If the design does not add to your bathroom design, don't buy it.

Coming up with bathroom tile design ideas goes as far as your imagination can stretch. Looking at magazine photos can help to stimulate ideas. Have fun with stamping your own unique personality into the bathroom and the heart of your home.

Do you want to learn how to design a bathroom? It's not as complicated as you might think and just following some simple tips can make your design and decorating project so much easier. Article source -> http://www.bathroomcentral.com

How to Lay Bathroom Tile

Laying bathroom tile is a lot more basic than it looks. When speaking of bathroom tile, I am speaking of ceramic tile. The way to lay ceramic tile is universal, no matter what size the tile. However, sometimes it is cheaper to buy the larger tiles. Please note that larger tiles do break easier.

To lay bathroom tile you must first completely clean the bathroom floor of all debris. You should only see the wood of the floor. Next you want to measure the floor. Measure wall to wall, even though it includes areas you will not be tiling. Extra tile may be needed if one or two get cracked or cut wrong. After deciding what kind of tile you need, you can figure out how much tile you need. For instance, if you have a 8 x 10 room, you need 80 square feet of tile. You also need 80 sq. ft. of concrete board. Cover the entire floor in cement board, securing it to the floor with decking screws and a thin layer of mortar underneath the concrete board. Make sure there are no gaps between sheets of concrete board. Next find the center of the room. Mark the center of the room. This is where you begin to tile.

Please not that there is a way to make the tiles look centered even if the room is not in square. Instead of laying the tiles in a vertical or horizontal line with the room, you can lay them in a diagonal line. This makes it difficult to see that the room is out of square.

Once you have found the center of the room and decided how to lay your tile, spread mortar on a small area of the floor, working from the center outward. The direction depends which way you are going so you can get out of the room without destroying the tile. Keep in mind it should not be walked on for 24 hours. The mortar should be spread with a tool made especially for spreading floor adhesive as it grooved to allow for even spreading. Make sure to wear protective gloves as the mortar can be irritating to the skin.

Place the tile on the mortar and twist until it is secure. The twisting releases the air trapped under the tile. Do not lean on the tile or press it down with your knee. Make sure tile is exactly where you want it. Place spacers around the tile. Lay next following the same steps until all the tile is on the floor. Let sit for a minimum of twenty four hours and then grout the tile.

7 Ways to Learn How to Tile a Bathroom

Learning how to tile a bathroom might not seem important, but it is. If you can do your own tile work, you'll save hundreds of dollars on the cost of a professional tile setter. Laying your own bathroom tile requires some tools and skill, but it's not too hard for the average person to learn. All you need is dedication and a little practice. If you'd like to learn how to tile a bathroom, here are a few tips to help.

1. First, figure out how many tiles you'll need for the area you'll be tiling. This is a relatively simple process - measure a tile, then figure out how many will fit in the space along the top. Then, figure out how many fit along one side, and multiply the two. Add a few more tiles than this number, however. You may break some, or have miscounted, and having extra tiles is better than running out. Plus, some additional tiles can be kept on hand if one is ever damaged. Just replace the tile with a spare, and your bathroom will look as good as new.

2. Use a tile gauge to determine where your tiles should go. You can make one on your own - it's just a piece of wood marked with the positions of the tiles. When making the gauge, lay out tiles on a flat surface with spacers between them, and line up the tile gauge with them. Mark where the tiles lie, and you'll have your very own gauge.

3. Line up the center. Draw a vertical line down the wall in the location where your middle tile will be located. This allows you to tile outward from this point, and to have a well lined up design.

4. Start at the bottom, not the top. Lay the tiles from the bottom up, and remember to use spacers, so that each tile is evenly laid.

5. For straight cuts, a tile cutting jig is invaluable. It'll help you cut individual tiles to the right size to fit in your bathroom. Curved tiles will require the use of a tile cutting saw.

6. Use grout to fill all gaps. Once your tiles have set, you can remove the spacers and fill in the areas between the tiles with grout. Use a waterproof bathroom grout to keep water from being trapped between tiles.

7. Seal everything well. Use silicone caulk or acrylic caulk to seal any gaps or seams between your tile and the tub, sink, or other fixtures. Run a damp finger along a bead of caulk to seal it.

If you learn how to tile a bathroom, you'll be able to have better control over your remodeling job, plus you'll save a lot of money. So, if you'd like to develop the skills for the job, research tile in depth and talk to an experienced tile setter for more information. You could be laying your own tile soon.

Installing Ceramic Tile In Your Bathroom

Installing ceramic tile in your bathroom doesn't have to be a tough job. The materials you will need are a carpenter's level, hammer, tile cutter, tile nipper, grooved trowel, rubber gloves, plastic tile spacers, chalk line, rubber squeegee, popsicle sticks, tile sponge, tile mastic, grout, tile sealant, and caulk.

1.) The first step is to choose the size, color and pattern of the ceramic tiles to achieve the look you want in your bathroom. There is a wide variety of selection for any taste or budget.

2.) Next the surface the tiles will be installed on should be prepped and cleaned. Walls should be smooth and free of wallpaper, plaster, and peeling paint. It may be necessary to add primer to unfinished drywall. Floors should be stripped down to bare underlay or concrete.

3.) Start by using a level to draw a line on the wall from the edge of the tub to as high as you want the tile to go. Lay a starter row of tiles starting along the back wall, adjusting them so that the last tile will not have to be cut more than halfway. Then remove the tile and cut the end pieces to fit. For the fixtures, use tile nippers to cut holes from the adjacent tiles. Don't worry about being exact, as the escutcheons will cover the edges.

4.) Use a grooved trowel to lay enough mastic on the wall that you can cover in half an hour or less so you have time to adjust the tiles before it dries. Place the starter row along the edge of the tub, adjusting them to level. Leave a 1/8" gap between the first row and the tub, and use tile spacers to keep them even. Once the end of the row has been reached, lay the next row working in a stair step pattern, spreading more mastic as necessary. Save the cap tiles until last.

5.) Finish the other walls using a similar pattern. Once finished, allow the mastic to dry for at least 24 hours.

6.) Once the mastic has dried, it's time to lay the grout. Mix the grout to a smooth putty consistency, then wet the tiles so they don't suck water from the grout. Remove the tile spacers and spread the grout using rubber gloves. Then use a rubber squeegee to spread the grout between the tiles. You can use the popsicle sticks to force the grout between the tiles, then wipe them with a damp sponge to remove the excess. Allow it to dry overnight, then use a tile sponge to remove the thin film of grout that has dried on the surface of the tiles.

7.) Apply caulk to the gap left around the edge of the tub, as well as around any windows. Apply ceramic tile sealant according to the label.

Simple Bathroom Remodeling Tips

If you are planning to remodel your bathroom, and are on a tight budget, there are several low cost solutions that can turn an old, drab bathroom into a modern and contemporary one.

First, start with the tub area. The tub area is the center piece of your bathroom. It is what can make or break a bathroom. If the tub area is old and stained it sticks out like a sore thumb. There are a variety of new tubs styles and shapes to choose from if you are considering replacing it. There are corner tubs, recessed tubs, drop in tubs, freestanding tubs, and whirlpool tubs.

If you have an old cast iron tub and don't want to replace it, you can have it refinished to bring new life to it.

Also, regarding the tub area, if there is outdated tile installed above the tub, or even worse, fiberglass paneling, remove it and replace it with new and contemporary ceramic tiles. There are a multitude of ceramic tile styles and patterns compared to what was available in the 1950s. Many ceramic tiles are inexpensive and can be installed by a homeowner.

Second, take a look at the bathroom vanity area. If the bathroom vanity is old, stained and/or damaged you can find a replacement one at a home improvement store for relatively little money. If the vanity is in good shape, you could simply dress it up by replacing the vanity top and possibly the bathroom sink. Bathroom vanity tops and sinks are easy to replace and are easy to install yourself.

Third, if your older toilet works and is not damaged in anyway, you probably should stick with it, particularly if you like a strong flush. New, low water utilization toilets are great for limiting the use of water, but can be a pain in terms of their effectiveness in flushing.

Fourth, if you have a hot water heating system, consider replacing the heating element in the bathroom. These frequently rust or get damaged and create a nasty eyesore in the bathroom. You can replace them yourself; however it does require some plumbing skills that you may not want to tackle.

Fifth, upgrade the bathroom light fixtures. Today people want bright bathrooms. Older bathrooms frequently only had one or two bulbs that resided in an overhead fan assembly. Consider installing a new ceiling fan/light assembly as well as additional lighting above or on the sides of the bathroom mirror.

Sixth, replace the bathroom flooring. Older bathrooms frequently have old, yellowing vinyl flooring that is curling up around the edges of the bathroom. Ceramic floor tiling is the preference with many homebuyers today and is a project most homeowners can do on their own. One word of advice, if you have plans of removing the vanity and toilet as part of the remodeling project, install the ceramic tile before you reinstall the vanity and toilet. You'll save yourself a lot of tile cutting and time.

Seventh, remove that old pink or blue ceramic tile from the bathroom walls and replace it with either new ceramic tile or beadboard.

Eight, replace all of the bathroom trim. Bathroom trim sees a lot of moisture and frequently gets dinged up over the years. As a result, it can look pretty shabby. It's easier to pull it off and replace it with new pre-painted or pre-stained trim.

Almost all of these bathroom remodeling tips can be done by the homeowner and require little skill. It's just a matter of rolling up the sleeves and digging in. So put together your list of bathroom remodeling ideas and get to work in transforming your old, ugly bathroom into a modern sanctuary.

Bathroom Vanity Cabinets - Considerations Before Buying Bathroom Vanities Online

Bathroom vanity cabinets are an essential component of any bathroom and can add drama to your design and decor. Bathroom sink cabinets provide countertop space, a place for the sink and faucets and great storage below. It is amazing how often bathroom cabinets and storage are left out of the planning process. It is important to have a place for everything in your bathroom that is easily accessible to everyone. Bathroom vanity cabinets and storage provide home organization and reduce clutter. You never can have too much bathroom storage!

Here are some considerations before buying bathroom vanities online or in stores:

Bathroom vanity cabinets are available in widths of 18 inches up to 48 inches and in increments of 6 inches. When looking for bathroom vanities online or in stores, shop where you can find a wide variety of styles and sizes. From traditional to contemporary, you should be able to choose from vanity cabinets made of woods such as walnut, oak, maple, cherry and finished with high-gloss lacquer that showcases the natural wood finish.

Here are types of bathroom storage cabinets:

1. Cabinetry - bathroom vanity cabinets, wall cabinets, recessed cabinets and medicine cabinets.
2. Open shelving - recessed shelving, corner shelving and surface mounted shelves.
3. Over the toilet cabinets - cabinets that use the wall space over the toilet for storage cabinets.
4. Linen closets, towers with baskets, built-in closets and cabinets or freestanding bathroom sink cabinets that often extend from the floor to the ceiling and provide excellent bathroom storage for linens and other bathroom items.

You should be able to find bathroom vanity cabinets in these two styles:

1. Face-frame vanity cabinets. These bathroom cabinets will give your bathroom a more traditional and formal look. The frame and panel doors are designed to frame the cabinet box, and hinges can be either hidden from view or visible.

2. Frameless vanity cabinets or European style cabinets. These modern bathroom vanities will give your bathroom a more contemporary look. Frameless vanity cabinets will provide you with heavy-duty cabinet boxes and hinges that are hidden and easily adjustable.

When selecting bathroom sink cabinets and door hardware, make sure you match the period cabinets with period style knobs and pulls. You can sometimes find the antique type of knobs you may be looking for at flea markets. Knobs for your cabinets can be $3 to $5 each, and some can run $20 or more each, perhaps creating a problem for your budget.

For your bathroom vanity cabinets countertops, you have several options. You can choose from laminates, ceramic tile, wood, composite materials or solid surface materials such as stone, stainless steel or concrete. Laminates, composite materials, solid surface materials and stainless steel are more susceptible to scratches. However, composite or solid surface materials can be repaired and replaced very easily. Stone countertops are beautiful and durable, but they can stain easily and are expensive.

Ceramic tile is the most commonly used countertop surface. It is durable and you can select from a wide variety of sizes, colors and textures. However, the grout used between the tiles can stain and the tiles can have irregular surfaces. Wood surfaces are beautiful but can stain or mildew if not maintained well. Concrete is a durable and heat-resistant countertop surface, but it can discolor or crack.

Whether upgrading an existing bathroom or planning a new one, the bathroom is one of the best home improvement investments you can make. You, your family and guests will enjoy the bathrooms in your home every day. And should you ever sell your home, attractive and functional bathrooms add to the desirability and to the selling price of your home. Before you buy, read as much as you can on choosing the bathroom vanities online or in stores that will be the best for you and your bathroom. Learning as much as you can will be time well spent.

Advice For People And Their Bathrooms

The bathroom is not complete until the bathroom tiles are tiled and sealed properly. When people forget to seal the tile with thick lubricant then it poses a problem which in the long run would damage the tiles, and have an effect where the water starts peeping through the tiles and most likely to cause damage underneath. Rather than using a normal tile sealer its always best to recommend that people opt for a better quality tile sealer which to be fair would cost a few pounds more but have a better effect on the tile in the long run once the tile sealer has been applied.

You can buy normally two different tile sealers for the tiles. One is normally for the wall tiles and the other is for the floor tiles. The floor tile sealer has to be a bit thicker than the wall tiles as the floor has a lot more exposure for water to be ending up on the floor rather than the wall tiles. You should also use the tile sealer approximately two to three times in year depending on the usage of the bathroom. If there is minimal usage of the bathroom then once a year is fine, but however if the bathroom is used everyday by a large growing family then three times a year for the sealer has to be applied to the wall and the floor.

This way careful maintenance will defiantly give you more years of usage before spending a lot more money replacing the product. One of the best ways to have the layout of the bathroom tiles is to give it that special effect for the tiles to be laid out. Rather than the tiles having designer special tiles throughout the bathroom suite, then having every now and then would give it that special touch.

A simple nice mosaic strip behind the basin sink and a simple strip of metal and glass mosaics in the shower cubicle would look great and make the bathroom suite look as if it's a showroom suite.

When using the basin suite people normally choose a simple white sink and a simple white pedestal to match the basin top. There is several basin furniture that people can choose from. Meaning that instead of a pedestal that's made from pottery or china wear, the pedestal would be made from wood and that has an effect that the basin is sitting on top of the table freestanding. This type of table and basin looks so modern and contemporary that it gives it that wow factor which people might see in a really nice posh hotel.

The same applies for the toilet where the back cistern is covered in a wooden effect glossy wood piece while toilet and the toilet seats are left just off the wooden box, again giving it that contemporary touch. Then with having special shinny chrome bath taps to match these floor standing basin units and bath really does make the bathroom come together.

Bathroom Wall Tile - Splash and Pizazz

The bathroom was once called the wash closet. It became a standard room in homes during the end of the 19th century. They were built strictly for function and had an antiseptic quality. For the most part they used white surfaces because it was considered sterile. Around 1930 the Deco Style Era introduced a new style in interior decor. It was known for its shapes, patterns as well as vivid colors. Ceramic and glass tiles started appearing in bathrooms of newly built homes. The glazes that were used back then had a thinner consistency than the glazes of today. This created a flat surface unlike the tile in our modern bathrooms that have a slight bevel.

For today's life style the bathroom is a place for relaxation and pleasure. We are spending longer amounts of time in this room to pamper ourselves. Every day we clean our bodies which helps to ignite our energy and enlighten our spirits for the day ahead.

The bathroom has become our personal sanctuary and should be treated with special touches. With the many options that exist you can add elements of comfort, softness, radiance and sophistication.

For most home owners the bathroom is a fun place to start a decorating project. The bathroom is usually the smallest room of the house and the easiest to make over for the novice. Even if you have zero tile experience this project can be accomplished over a weekend. If you do not have the do-it-yourself attitude there are many contractors just waiting for you to call.

Bathroom wall tiles come in various materials, sizes, shapes, colors, patterns and price ranges. Some materials that are available are ceramic, porcelain, marble, metal and limestone. The most common material is ceramic. It is water resistant, easy to clean, extremely durable and economical. All wall tiles help protect your walls and fixtures.

There are endless options when it comes to decorative tile. A few common choices to consider are the raised rope or sea shell design. There are also hand painted porcelain tiles and multi colored glass tiles that are available. Marble is an excellent choice for borders. There is also a technique that was developed in Europe. You can have digital images reproduced on tile.

Here are a few designs considered to be trendy: Traditional tiles with splashes of colors and patterns, natural stone with marble accents and the harlequin pattern which uses diamond shapes rather then square shaped tiles.

It may be wise for resale value to keep the wall tile confined to a small space. A couple of examples would be framing a small section in front of a vanity or just installing the tile in your shower stall. What ever you choose try to make it the focal point of the room.

Within the last 10 years we have learned that using large body tiles and less grout make the room easier to maintain and helps make the room look larger and less busy. There are so many options full of decorative potential. There are an abundance of finishes such as shiny, matte, rustic and earth tones. All of these help create either a casual or elegant atmosphere.

The key to achieving your desired look is to plan everything in advance on paper. Let your imagination run wild. Many companies offer bathroom design software. This will give you an idea of how the wall will look before you purchase your tile. Otherwise ask for samples to take home. This way you can make certain it will match your decor.

So start planning your project and soon you will have a room that is appealing to you and your guests.

Cheapie Ways to Stretch Your Dollar in the Bathroom

Decorating or re-decorating your bathroom does not have to cost you your entire savings, or your whole paycheck. You can find creative ways to renovate one of your home's most-used rooms for a fraction of what you may think it would cost.

Useful Bathroom Re-Decoration Tips

You can find plenty of timeless decorative items at thrift stores, rummage sales, and online stores. Items people have found to accent their bathroom include one or more of the following: brass toilet paper holders, tissue holders, hanging shelves, towel racks, and shower curtains.

If you do not like the color of your bathroom tile you can find paint that is especially made for porcelain materials at your local hardware store. You might even be able to find out if you can repaint your toilet as well which would save you even more money.

Beware that you will need to sand it before you attempt to paint any porcelain fixture. You will also want to take precaution by testing the paint in an inconspicuous area of the fixture you want to change the color of. is advisable to test the paint in an inconspicuous area of the time you want to change.

If you want to somehow update your outdated bathroom color scheme you can do so without ripping the entire bathroom apart. For instance, sometimes if you add the smallest change, such as wallpaper border that blends with the two or more colors of your bathroom.

You can also accent the outdated color scheme by purchasing inexpensive modern bathroom decor. For instance, you can buy a toothbrush cover, soap dish, tissue holder, or framed picture to hang in this beloved room of your home.

Perhaps if you want a change paint the walls of your bathroom to compliment your cabinets, sink, or bathtub if they are a different color. Similarly, you can use colored rugs that coordinate or contrast with the rest of the colors of your fixtures.

One recommendation for painting in your bathroom that would not take much work or money would be the "in" color Terra Cotta. It is one that is more popular now. You could possibly use various texturing techniques to combine a new color over the top of the old color if your walls are still in prime condition.

If you have a very, very, old and ugly shade of green, yellow, gold, orange, or similar color you could try for a certain theme. For instance, you might want to try a tropical theme, and perhaps you can find a palm tree border.

You can take care of rust problems on fixtures such as towel bars with a special cleaner. Before you know it they will be like new again. Rust-o-leum paint is one of the most current recommendations, and they are coming out with brand new colors now.

Another easy way to add some life to your stale bathroom is to purchase stencils and special craft paints. In fact, one experience indicates certain craft paints are removable from tile just by applying a razor blade (something to try at your own risk, especially if you rent).

The use of Deco-Stix or cling plastic accents is also used to decorate tiles. These are also very easily removable if you want to change the theme for various holidays, seasons, or special occasions.

The easiest way to recover a mix-up bathroom that includes all kinds of mismatched colors is to add a multi-colored rug that includes all the same colors. It will cleverly look like your bathroom is supposed to be crazy like it is.

The above-mentioned ideas should get you started. If you are still cannot decide on what inexpensive measures you can take to re-decorate your bathroom take some time to view samples of bathroom themes.Home improvement websites and do-it-yourself magazines often feature various rooms of the home you are interested in changing. You can even find instructions on how to carry out the change you would like to implement in your bathroom interior theme.
